3. Consent
By providing your information to the NBAFC, you consent to its collection and use for the purposes above. Where the law requires explicit, written, or separate consent for a specific use, we will ask for it. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer (section 8). Withdrawing consent may limit our ability to deliver the services you have asked for.
4. Disclosure to third parties
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information only:
- Within the NBAFC, with the people involved in reviewing submissions. Bursary applications are reviewed by the Awards Committee of the NBAFC for recommendation to the Board of Directors, and award nominations are reviewed by those involved in selecting recipients. The names of award and bursary recipients may be announced at our events, on our website or in our publications.

- With Google reCAPTCHA, which analyzes certain technical data (such as your IP address and how you interact with the page) when you use our forms, to protect them from spam and abuse.
- With Mapbox, which provides the map on our map page and receives technical information (such as your IP address) when the map loads.
- With the provider that delivers our emails, including contact form messages, newsletters, and the nominations and bursary applications (with their supporting documents) that are emailed to our office, which accesses your information only as needed to deliver that service and is bound by appropriate confidentiality terms.
- With the service provider that hosts this website, which accesses information only as needed to operate and maintain the site and is bound by appropriate confidentiality terms.
- Where required or permitted by law, including in response to a lawful request from a public authority.
This website links to external sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information. We encourage you to review their policies.
5. Where your information is stored
Your information is stored in Canada whenever possible. Some service providers may process limited technical information (for example, web analytics) outside Canada. Where this happens, the information is subject to the laws of the country where it is processed, including lawful access by authorities in that country.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
This website uses cookies and similar technologies. A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by your browser. We group cookies into two categories:
- Necessary cookies are required for the site to work, for example to remember your language choice and your consent preferences. Google reCAPTCHA, which protects our forms from spam and abuse, is also included in this category. These are always on and cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. We use Google Analytics 4, which does not log or store IP addresses. These cookies are off by default.
Analytics cookies are loaded only after you accept them. Until you
make a choice, only necessary cookies run, and Google Consent Mode v2 keeps
ad_storage and analytics_storage set to denied.
You can change your choices at any time by clicking Cookie preferences in the footer. Clearing your cookies will reset your preferences and the consent banner will appear again on your next visit.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block necessary cookies, some features of the site, such as our forms, may not work.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this statement and to meet any record retention obligations that apply to us. Records are retained for seven (7) years, after which they are destroyed or anonymized in a secure manner. Website analytics data is retained for fourteen (14) months.
